    The AA Driver Education Foundation has been formed by the New Zealand Automobile Association as an independent body to represent the interests of the New Zealand Automobile Association (and its membership) and other major parties in the specific area of road user safety through improved driver licencing standards, driver attitude and driver skills.
  • ADVANCED
    Advanced is a study of post-licence driver and rider training co-financed by the European Commission. It describes and analyses voluntary, post-licence training and makes a series of recommendations on how to improve such training.   • Alcohol Interlock Curriculum for Practitioners (AICP) (US)
    An educational resource from the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) for diverse audiences. Information relating to the following topics can be found at this site:

  • ALCOLOCK
    Alcolock implementation in the European Union; an in-depth qualitative field trial. The general objective of the project is to contribute to a reduction of the number of victims on European roads by preparing and facilitating legal implementation of alcolocks in the European Union through research on the psychological, sociological, behavioural and practical impact on drivers whose vehicles are equipped with an alcolock.
  • ANDREA
    Driver rehabilitation courses for the reintegration of traffic violators are a growing market in many EU-states. It was the objective of the “Andrea-project (Analysis of Driver Rehabilitation Programmes) to analyse which elements of these courses are more or less effective.
  • ANWB (NL)
    The Royal Dutch Tourist Club ANWB tries to promote the collective interests of its members on mobility. This usually occurs backstage in consultation with the government and branch organisations.
  • APROSYS
    World-wide, vehicle safety experts agree that significant further reductions in fatalities and injury numbers could be achieved by deploying appropriate passive (or crash) safety strategies. The FP6 APROSYS Integrated Project (IP) answers to this call by development and introduction of critical technologies that improve passive safety for all European road users for priority accident types and levels of crash severity.

  • CARE - Community Road Accident Database
    CARE is a Community database on road accidents resulting in death or injury (no statistics on damage - only accidents). The major difference between CARE and most other existing international databases is the high level of disaggregation, i.e. CARE comprises detailed data on individual accidents as collected by the Member States.

  • Confederation of Organisations in Road Transport Enforcement (CORTE)
    CORTE was established in 2004 with the aim to bring together the national bodies from various European countries having a responsibility and interest in the field of road transport. Member are representatives of national enforcement agencies, the police, government transport departments, non-government organisations active in the field of road transport and industrial partners. CORTE gahters and coordinates expertise issues connected to road transport at the European level, ensuring that the voice of its members is heard by the EU institutions and other stakeholders.     The Integrated Project DRUID (Driving under the Influence of Drugs, Alcohol and Medicines) deals with the scourge of drink-driving and is going to find answers to questions concerning the use of drugs or medicines that affect people’s ability to drive safely.   • DVR - Deutscher Verkehrssicherheitsrat (DE)
    The task of the association is to promote measures to improve the safety of all road users. Its focus is on issues of traffic engineering, road safety education and information, traffic law and enforcement. The association coordinates the various activities of its members, develops programs and continually adjusts these to new requirements and scientific knowledge.

  • Euro NCAP
    Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe.
  • EUROBOB
    This campaign is based on the principle of the designated driver concept: the designated driver is the person who does not drink when he has to drive and who drives the rest of the party home safely. The general objective of this project is to insist on the fact that drinking and driving do not mix, to make people aware of the dangers of alcohol behind the wheel and to make drink driving socially unacceptable.

    The aim of this project was to investigate the feasibility of an EU-wide Electronic Vehicle Identification system.   • Expertisecentrum voor internationaal Onderzoek en Innovatie (EiOI)
    Since 1983, EiOI (before EG-Liaison/EGL) shows the way within the complex fields of European subsidies. It is free and independent.     European countries have a national road safety research programme, usually led by the national Ministry of Transport. In most countries, there is a single organization which provides the primary focus for the execution and implementation of this programme. The Forum of European Road Safety Research Institutes (FERSI) was created in 1991 to bring together these national research organizations to provide a common focus for road safety research at the European level.

    The aim of IN-ARTE was to develop an integrated autonomous on-board system to be able to build an extended view of the environment in front of the vehicle, integrating signals from anticollision radar, road recognition CCD sensors and navigation map, in order to guide and warn the driver through an optimum HMI in a series of rural areas related traffic tasks, such as intersection handling, speed selection while negotiations, curves, obstacle detection, etc.
