SECURITY PATTERN
- Location: Distributed over the front and rear of the driving licence
- Characteristics: The security background is based on a complex guilloche pattern. These guilloches consist of thin, continuous interleaved lines that form a complex and unique pattern.
- Method of verification: Visual

GUILLOCHE – POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE
- Location: On the front of the driving licence
- Characteristics: The design of the driving licence contains two types of guilloche: positive (lines on a white background) and negative (white lines on a coloured background).
- Method of verification: Visual

RAINBOW PRINTING
- Location: Distributed over the front and rear of the driving licence
- Characteristics: The guilloches are combined with rainbow printing consisting of gradual transitions from one colour to another
- Method of verification: Visual

OPTICALLY VARIABLE INK (OVI)
- Location: On the front of the driving licence at the bottom right, on the small icon representing the territory of Belgium
- Characteristics: An image of the map of Belgium is printed with an optically variable ink. It changes colour from magenta to gold and back, depending on the viewing angle
- Method of verification: Visual, by tipping the driving licence back and forth

HOLOGRAM
- Location: On the front of the driving licence at the lower left, partially on top of the photo
- Characteristics: The photo is protected by a hologram consisting of two transparent images. The shape and colour of the image change depending on the angle of incidence
- Method of verification: Visual, by tipping the driving licence back and forth

GUILLOCHES IN RELIEF
- Location: On the front and rear sides in the right middle of the driving licence
- Characteristics: The direction and thickness of the line structure are varied to produce a relief image in the background design of the security feature. The letter ‘B’ appears in relief in the line pattern on both sides of the driving licence
- Method of verification: Visual

ANTI-SCAN PATTERN
- Location: On the rear of the driving licence on the left side
- Characteristics: The pattern is made of images based on thin lines and has visible defects (blurs) when it is copied or scanned
- Method of verification: Visual

LASER ENGRAVED IMAGE
- Location: Distributed over the front and rear of the driving licence
- Characteristics: The personal details and photo of the licence holder are laser engraved on the card using laser-sensitive polycarbonate sheets
- Method of verification: Visual; all information printed in black on the driving licence

RELIEF ELEMENTS
- Location: The Belgian lion, the letter ‘B’ and the text ‘Belgique België Belgien Belgium’ can be seen in relief on the front (positive), and the letter ‘B’ appears in negative relief on the rear
- Characteristics: Images or texts are printed in relief on the card surface during the production process
- Method of verification: Tangible, by rubbing a fingertip over the specific area. Visual, by tipping the driving licence back and forth

CHANGEABLE LASER IMAGE (CLI)
- Location: In an oval-shaped area on the front in the middle
- Characteristics: Two images (passport photo and part of the driving licence number). This is a variable laser image (changeable laser image)
- Method of verification: Visual, by tipping the driving licence back and forth. Depending on the angle of the card, it shows an image of the licence holder, a series of numbers, or both

UV PRINT
- Location: On the front the UV motif shows two images of the Belgian coat of arms separated by three lines of text ‘BELGIE BELGIQUE BELGIEN BELGIUM’. The letter ‘B’ and the word ‘Belgium’ are printed on the rear in UV ink.
- Characteristics: Elements are printed with an ink that fluoresces blue under UV light. They are only visible under ultraviolet light
- Method of verification: Visual by illumination with UV light

MICROTEXT
- Location: On the front this is located at the top of the licence under the main heading ‘DRIVING LICENSE’. On the rear it is printed at the bottom.
- Characteristics: Microtext is integrated in the security background on both sides, it consists of very small characters.
- Method of verification: Visual, using a magnifying glass
