Vehicle registration is managed by the Italian Department of Land Transport (Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport). The registration certificate is delivered as a single document. From 1978 to 1999, a single registration certificate model was used for all vehicles. Registration certificates issued before 1990 could be completed by manual records from the Public Vehicle Register (PRA). The document was valid and complete only if it included a PRA annotation of the registration. Registration certificates issued since 1990 no longer contain any comments by the PRA. Registration documents used from 12/12/1994 to 23/11/1999 included in a single document the registration certificate and an identification mark for vehicles eligible for exemption from driving restrictions. This mark has not been printed since 1998.
